Thallus: crustose, irregular, up to 5 cm in diameter, yellow to redbrown, lobes not always distinctly developed, up to 1.5 mm long, highly convex. With areoles in center, scales often narrowed at the base, often gewunden and curved, up to 2 mm high. Cortex well devolped, hyphae prosoplectenchymatous. Medulla more or less dense. Apothecia mostly abundant, often gedrängt, up to 1.5 mm wide, soon double berandet. Disc often redish. Pharaphyses to 5 - 7 µm swollen at the ends. Sprores spindelig, 10 - 19 /5-8 µm, Septae 0.5-1, rarely to 2.5 µm wide (Poelt 1954: 21).
