Thallus: distinctly foliose, dorsiventral, flat and rosette-forming, composed of 3-4(-5) radially orientated, very small lobes, ca. 3-3.5(-5) mm diam., single or forming dense aggregations composed of rounded or irregular patches (1-)2-4(-10) cm diam., which consist of vertically arranged flat lobes, with folded margins; very variegated pigmentation of the upper surface, green yellow, citrine yellow to greenish grey, after long herbarium storage yellowish grey; densely attached to the substratum by the central portions without rhizines; abundantly blastidiate at the margins and on the lower surface. Thallus in section ca. 110-140 µm thick. Epicortex yellowish brown, 3-5 µm thick. Cortex paraplectenchymatous, consisting of 3-4 layers of cells almost spherical or slightly elongated anticlinally, 4-8 x (3-)4-7 µm. Upper cortex up to 15-20 µm thick. Lower cortex ca. 20-25 µm thick. Medulla includes algal layer and interwoven hyphae 1.5-2 µm diam. Algae trebouxioid, spherical, ca. 7-17(-21) µm diam. Lobes well developed, dorsiventral, horizontal or more often entirely ascending, margins more or less down-turned, ca. (1.5-)2.0-2.5(-5.0) mm long and up to (0.8-)1.3-2.0(-2.5) mm wide; sometimes with narrow marginal zones ca. 150 µm lacerated into smaller lobes, 250-300 µm wide, which are often cut into further small spherical or ellipsoid parts, ca. 75-100 x 60-75 µm. Blastidia abundant, at marginal zones of the ascending lobes and on the lower surface of the thallus, rarely on the upper surface, concolorous with thallus or a little more intense orange, ca. (42-)45-55(-63) µm diam.; at the margins very often aggregated or conglutinated into conblastidia ca. (55-)63-85(-100) µm diam. Rhizines rare on vertical or ascending lobes and on the lower surface of horizontal lobes, white, 0.1-0.2(-0.7) mm long. Apothecia extremely rare, located on vertical lobes, rather raised, 0.5-1.0 mm diam., thalline margin raised, very thick, ca. 0.2-0.3 mm thick, concolorous with thallus. Epihymenium yellow or brightly brownish, 3-5 µm thick. Hymenium hyaline, 50-60 µm tall. Subhymenium hyaline, 12-15 µm. True exciple poorly developed, ca. 15-20 µm thick in the basal part, ca. 10-12 µm in the lateral part. Asci 40-45 x (10-)13-17 µm. Paraphyses very lax, ca. 1.8-2.0 µm wide at the base and with 1-2 uppermost cells extremely swollen, ca. 4-6(-7) µm wide. Ascospores (10-)11-13(-15) x (6-)7-8.5 µm; septum 5-6 µm. Spermogonia rare or sometimes abundant, occurring as dark orange or red-orange warts up to 130 µm diam. Spermatia broadly ellipsoid, (2.5-)3.0-3.5(-3.8) x (1.0-)1.2-1.4(-1.5) µm. (Kondr. & Kärnefelt 1997: 426).
