Thallus: adnate to loosely adnate, pulvinate, easily breaking apart, 5-7 cm broad, darkish yellow green; lobes sublinear, 0.5-0.7 mm wide, sparsely dichotomously branched, crowded and appressed-imbricate; upper surface continuous or faintly reticulate-maculate und rugose at the tip, shiny, isidia and soredia lacking; medulla white; lower surface plane, black, very sparsely rhizinate, the rhizines black, coarse, simple, 0.3-0.5 mm long. Pycnidia well developed; conidia bifusiform; 0.5 x 5-7 µm. Apothecia not fully developed; 0.6-1 mm in diameter; spores not known (Hale 1986: 568).

Photobiont: Trebouxia.

Chemistry: Microphyllinic acid (major), 4-O-demethylmicrophyllinic acid (major), 4-O-methylolivetoric acid (trace), usnic acid (det. C. Culberson and A. Johnson) (Hale 1986: 568).
