Thallus: adnate to somewhat loosely attached, 5-8 cm broad, bright yellow green; lobes subirregular, apically rotund, 3-7 mm wide, imbricate and short lobulate with age; upper surface continuous, emaculate, shiny or rarely white pruinose at the tips, isidia and soredia lacking; upper medulla white, lower medulla often dull reddish; lower surface plane, black, moderately rhizinate, the rhizines black, simple, 0.5-1 mm long. Pycnidia rare; conidia bifusiform, 0.5x4-5 µm. Apothecia adnate, 4-8 mm in diameter; spores 5-7 x 8x12 µm (Hale 1990: xx).

Photobiont: Trebouxia.

Chemistry: Psoromic acid, protocetraric acid, caperatic acid (+/-), usnic acid, “schenckiana” pigment (+/-).

Ecology: On rock.
