Thallus: loosely attached, 3-5 cm broad but coalescing into larger colonies, yellowish green; lobes sublinear, 1.5-4 mm wide, separate to imbricate, more or less subascending and weakly convoluted; upper surface weakly to distinctly white-maculate, shiny, isidia and soredia lacking; upper medulla white, lower medulla ochre in part; lower surface plane, brown with ochre spots, sparsely rhizinate, the rhizines brown, 1-2 mm long, coarse, simple to furcated with splayed tips. Pycnidia immature; conidia not found. Apothecia well developed, substipitate, 4-8 mm in diameter; spores 6-7 x 9-12 µm.
Photobiont: Trebouxia.
Chemistry: Protocetraric acid (major), 4-O-demethyldiffractaic acid (major), 4-O-barbatic acid (trace), squamatic acid (trace), usnic acid, skyrin (det. J. A. Elix).
Ecology: on pebbles to nearly free growing on soil.
