Holotype: UNITED STATES. Arizona. Cochise Co.: picnic area at Parker Canyon Lake at the base of the western slope of the Huachuca Mountains in a woodland area (5000') with mixed junipers and oaks, 5 April 1972, T. H. Nash 3981 (Herb. Arizona State Univ.; isotypes US, MIN, DUKE).
Type locality: USA, Arizona, Cochise County, picnic area at Parker Canyon Lake at the base of the western slope of the Huachuca Mountains in a woodland area with mixed junipers and oaks, 1650 m, 5.4.1972, T. Nash 3981 (ASU - holotype, DUKE, MIN, US - isotypes).

Thallus: foliose, adnate, 4-8 cm broad, dark yellowish green; lobes sublinear, 0.4-1 mm wide, elongate and narrow, dichotomously branched, imbricate, black rimmed; upper surface continuous, emaculate, shiny, isidia and soredia lacking; medulla white; lower surface plane, black, sparsely to moderately rhizinate, the rhizines, black, simple, 0.3-0.5 mm long. Pycnidia common; conidia bifusiform, 0.5x 6-7 µm. Apothecia common, substipitate, 3-7 mm in diameter; spores 5-6 x 9-10 µm.

Photobiont: Probably Trebouxia.
