Protolog: Thallus parvulus, orbicularis, monophyllus, luridus, utroque corticatus, centro umbilico affixus. Thallus usque ad 2.6 mm latus et in centro ad 0.5 mm altus. Cortex superior paraplectenchymatus, fuscescens, c. 6 µm altus, cortex inferior fortiter gelatinosus, 20-25 µm altus, hyphae medullarae 5-7 µm crassae cortice gelatinoso. Alga ad Trebouxia pertinet. Apothecia immersa, usque ad 0.5 mm lata, confluentia. Hymenium 60-70 µm altum, subhymenium 15-30 µm altum, cupular excipulum proprium 23-35 crassum. Asci clavati, 38-45 x 8-9 µm, octospori, sporae globosae vel ellipsoideae, incolores, 4-6 x 4-5 µm. Pycnidia immersa, in sectione 70-80 x 50-60 µm, conidia bacillaria, 5-6 x <1 µm.

Thallus: dark brown, rosette-shaped, up to 2.6 mm diam., flat or irregularly vaulted, martin adnate to elevated; lower surface brown at the margin and pale towards centre, attached to the substratum by a central umbilicus and scattered rhizoidal strands. Thallus in sections 40-70 µm at the margin, 210-350 µm (with umbilicus to 550 µm) in the central part, holdfast 50-200 µm tall. Upper cortex c. 6 µm thick, brownish, paraplectenchymatous; algal layer 15-20 µm tall, photobiont a species of Trebouxia; medullary hyphae 5-7 µm wide with thick, gelatinized walls; lower cortex brownish with double structure, strongly gelatinized, 20-25 µm tall. Apothecia numerous, immersed, up to 0.5 mm diam., confluent, disc darkbrown, flat or slightly convex, surrounded by a thin pale rim. Hymenium 60-70 µm, subhymenium 15-30 µm tall; epithecial gelatine brown in the upper part; exciple 23-35 µm broad with angular, 2-4 µm large cells; paraphyses 2-3 µm thick, distinctly septate and slightly branched, the tips enlarged to 4 µm with brown pigmented wall. Asci clavate, 38-45 x 8-9 µm, usually 8-spored; spores simple, colourless, globose or ovoid, 4-6 x 4-5 µm. Pycnidia in sections 50-60 µm wide and 70-80 µm tall, conidiophores short, 2-3 µm thick, conidia rod-shaped, 5-6 x <1 µm (Henssen 1991: 335).

Photobiont: Data lacking.

Chemistry: Cortex K-, HNO3+ dark blue-green; medulla K-. Gyrophoric acid (Henssen 1991: 335).
