Collectors of lichens of Yemen

  1. Balfour: Collected the type of Crocellina cinerea. Material in Geneva, Switzerland (G).

  2. Cockburn, ? (B.S.C.): Lieutenant in the British Army, stationed at Aden. Collected lichens during the Socotra expedition of I.B. Balfour in 1880. Numerous new and endemic species described by Müller Argau (1882) are based on his collections.

  3. Forbes, Henry O.: British zoologist at Liverpool. Collected a smaller number of lichens during the Forbes-Grant Expedition to Socotra and Abd-el-Kuri in 1898-1899. The lichens were treated by O. V. Darbishire.

  4. Mies, Bruno: German lichenologist. Collected in Mainland Yemen and Socotra between 1993 and 2003 (1997 and 2001 together with M. Schultz).

  5. Printzen, C.: German lichenologist. Collected lichens together with B. Mies on Socotra in 1994.

  6. Schultz, Matthias: German lichenologist. Collected in southern Yemen and Socotra in 1997, 2001 and 2002 (together with B. Mies in 1997 and 2001).

  7. Schweinfurth, Georg: German botanist. Collected lichens on Socotra during Riebeck's expedition to Socotra in 1881. Schweinfurth gave his collection (including the lichens) to I.B. Balfour in Edingburgh who sent them to Müller Argau at Geneve. Numerous new and endemic species described by Müller Argau (1882) are based on his collections.

  8. Simony, Oskar: 23.04.1852-06.04.1915. Austrian mathetician and physicist. Collected lichens in southern Yemen and Socotra during the Austrian South Arabia expedition 1898-1899. The species Simonyella variegata J. Steiner was named after him by the Austrian lichenologist J. Steiner.

  9. Thulin, M. & A. N. Gifri: - Collected Simonyella variegata on Socotra. Material in Uppsala, Sweden.
